Earth Day 2009 - Cool Cities Board Chair receives prestigious award!

April 18, 2008 - RVCCC Board Chair and Coordinator Diana Christopulos was honored with an award during the opening ceremonies at Roanoke's 2009 Earth Day Celebration.  Mayor David Bowers*, opened the event with a proclamation recognizing the importance of Earth Day.  He then announced that Dr. Christopulos had been recognized as the "Roanoke Valley Woman Taking the Lead to Save the Planet".  This award was sponsored by Roanoke Public Libraries* in connection with their celebration of Women's History Month.  Nominations for the award were received from members of the public.

This was a highlight in a day of highlights that included a free showing of "Solar Energy: Saved by the Sun" at the Grandin Theatre, local food vendors and presentations at Roanoke Natural Foods Co-op*, musical performances, and community organizations exhibits at Grandin Gardens*.  At the Cool Cities booth, we greeted the throng of hundreds of citizens that wandered through the exhibits all afternoon.
