Carbon Offsets
Until sources of green energy are available for all, we will continue to discharge CO2 into the atmosphere as we go about our normal business. While everyone should be looking for ways to REDUCE their carbon "footprint", most of us will not be able to eliminate it. What's the solution for those who want to demonstrate a genuine commitment to fighting global warming? CARBON OFFSETS.
Simply put, a carbon offset is a donation of money to some entity that will use the money to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
RVCCC has a local carbon offset program based on Compact Fluorescent Lightbulbs. Using donations, we purchase CFLs and distribute them in our community at our presentations and public events (such as Earth day). Each bulb we distribute will (over its useful life) eliminate about 700 pounds of CO2 emissions.
FACTS:
The average U.S. Household of 2 people is responsible for 41,500 lb. of CO2 emissions EVERY YEAR
A round trip airline trip for two to Europe causes about 7,000 lb. of CO2 emissions.
You can figure your emissions using a carbon footprint calculator. There are many on-line versions available, but we recommend ours, as it takes into account our local energy mix, and it is more personalized to your sitution.

Each CFL distributed by RVCCC costs about $2.50. This includes a special recyclable box with RVCCC information and CFL facts inserted or affixed to the box.
